Why Mosaic Services?
Mosaic Services is a non-profit organization created by an MRH teacher and her spouse who witnessed hard-working families experience huge setbacks because of system gaps. Their own lives have been enhanced by others who were able to help them in their own times of need. Because at-risk families often come from extended families that are also at-risk, the couple felt there needed to be an organization like Mosaic Services. They were inspired to do so by the life of a loved one who humbly served an at-risk population in New York City.
Why is there a need for this type of organization?
Schools, parents, and government work to support the needs of children, but there are often too many cracks between these entities for children from at-risk families to find long term success. Mosaic Services bridges the gaps between school, home, and government, preventing hard-working motivated families from falling through the cracks.
Why now?
Our society has observed generations of families unable to break the cycle of poverty. It’s time to help families change the futures of their children.
How does Mosaic Services help?
Character Education Mosaic Services integrates character education with enrichment opportunities developing each child’s sense of responsibility to themselves, their community, and their world. Children engage in weekly homework with parents to set goals and discuss plans for each individual child’s future.
Basic Needs Many pieces make a child whole. Mosaic Services understands a child’s basic needs must be met to reach his or her full potential. For this reason, we help families meet the basic needs of their children by offering financial assistance on an as needed basis throughout the year.
Accountability We believe being accountable to each other helps us do our personal best. Mosaic Services shows accountability to families by providing information about student progress regularly and outlining specific action plans Mosaic teachers are implementing to help each individual student. Parents show accountability to their child by ensuring homework is competed nightly, returning it in the folder daily, and attending all parent-teacher conferences and Mosaic Services meetings.
Academics Mosaic Services provides after school enrichment opportunities in math, science, reading and writing twice a week. Content areas are integrated with an emphasis on discovery, exploration, and inquiry, promoting thinking skills, language skills, and social development.
